Wouldn’t you rather take care of something today to prevent problems tomorrow? Your teeth are no exception to this idea. Preventing problems before they happen is the best approach for having a healthy smile for life.
A preventive dental visit keeps issues from arising and helps catch problem areas early on. When the sources of these problems are found and treated sooner rather than later, they can be addressed much more conservatively, creating less damage to the tooth. This also means they can be treated for much less, saving you money in the long run.
Maintaining a Healthy Smile
Keeping healthy teeth and gums requires brushing and flossing them daily at home. But to effectively prevent problems, regular professional cleanings at the dental office are required. A professional dental cleaning is necessary because all the plaque and tartar that collects on your teeth can’t be fully removed at home, no matter how well you brush and floss. At Prestige Dentistry, we will remove stubborn plaque and bacteria that are attached below the gum line, eliminate hard tartar, and also take off food stains that brushing alone can’t brush away.
At our office, your preventive dental visits involve periodic checkups to keep problems at bay. These visits first begin with low-radiation digital x-rays to get an update on the condition of your teeth.
Intraoral pictures will be taken of any areas of concern. Your gums will be measured and evaluated for health and recorded in your chart. This information tells us if there is any gum or bone disease present. Your dental team will then gently remove stubborn plaque and tartar. At this time, we will demonstrate proper techniques for brushing and flossing and give you tips for improving your home care routine.
Also during this visit, Dr. Reena Oza will thoroughly perform an exam of all teeth and your jaw joint, as well as any areas of concern that may have arisen since your last visit. She will also perform an oral cancer screening to check for any abnormalities or lesions that could be present.
New Patient Visit
If you are a new patient to our office, your first visit will begin by obtaining a thorough medical history. Dr. Oza will discuss your expectations and goals for a healthier smile with you. She will then thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, bite, and joints.
This visit typically involves the following:
- Digital x-rays
- Intraoral pictures
- Tooth exam
- Gum pocket recording
- TMJ joint evaluation
- Oral cancer screening
- Cosmetic dental assessment
- Medical history review
- Dental history review
Our team at Prestige Dentistry will then be able to present our findings and work with you to form a treatment plan that fits your specific needs and goals.
