Is there something about your smile that you wish you could change? Having a beautiful smile can improve your confidence and how you feel about yourself. You don’t have to let your smile hold you back. At Prestige Dentistry, we have several options to give you a confident, radiant smile that is not only beautiful but also healthy.
Cosmetic Dental Bonding
One of the most conservative and cost-effective ways to esthetically change your front teeth is with cosmetic dental bonding. Bonding can serve to repair discolored teeth, correct a tooth position, or close spaces between your teeth. We can also make teeth bigger with bonding and repair front teeth broken in an accident.
The material used in dental bonding is called composite, which is a tooth-colored, plastic material. The composite is layered onto the tooth, and is also regularly used for fillings.
What Can I Expect with Bonding?
Usually, cosmetic bonding can be done in one or just a few appointments. If old fillings need to be repaired or replaced, a single appointment is all that is needed.
If the changes needed are more complex, we will discuss your desired outcomes and take photographs and make models. The models are used to make a mock-up of the changes so they can be visualized before we begin.
Sometimes, cosmetic bonding can be completed without needing to be numbed. This is the case if the bonding needs to be done only in the outer layer of the tooth.
Another option that can be used to drastically improve your smile is porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin, translucent shells of porcelain that are bonded to the tooth surfaces. Veneers can correct the alignment and shade of teeth and fill in spaces between the teeth.
What to Expect with Veneers
If you choose veneers to improve your smile, Dr. Oza will do a thorough examination, discuss the process and your goals, and take models and photographs of your teeth.
Your teeth are then prepped to make room for the veneers, and temporaries will be fabricated. Next, Dr. Oza will work with a lab to mock up the desired shape and to select the best shade for the veneers, which are finally bonded to the teeth.
What Makes Bonding Different from a Porcelain Veneer?
Dental bonding uses a plastic material to repair or rebuild a tooth, in contrast to a porcelain veneer that is fabricated from ceramic by a dental lab. The composite and ceramic have different lifespans, different properties, and differ in the ways the natural tooth is prepared. Dr. Oza would be glad to discuss both choices and assist you in deciding which option better suits your goals for your teeth and smile.
